Many Ohio residents own and drive a Toyota vehicle. Those people should be aware of a massive recall of certain Toyota models that was recently announced. The recall includes 2012 and 2013 model year Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and Venza vehicles. Toyota believes that a free repair will help solve the issues some owners have regarding airbag and power steering malfunctions.
The air conditioning condenser unit creates the issues. Condensation from the unit can drip onto the airbag control module and leak inside, causing electronics to short circuit. When the short circuit occurs, the airbag warning light comes on. In some cases, the short circuit causes the air bag to become disabled. In others, the airbag deploys inadvertently.
Toyota says that another problem can arise that causes the power steering to stop working. This can be dangerous due to the increased amount of effort required to steer without the power steering. Toyota will repair the vehicle by placing sealant and a new cover on the air conditioning condensing unit.
With so many cars potentially having this issue and owners who have been or could be hurt because of it, many may benefit from a better understanding of product liability.
