Asbestos is a major concern for numerous Ohio residents. In a previous post, we discussed both the dangers of asbestos exposure and those individuals who may be most affected by it. In this article, we will go into further detail about the form of cancer that is typically associated with exposure to asbestos and what options are available for treatment and compensation.
Malignant mesothelioma is a cancer that is considered very aggressive in nature. It can affect several different areas of the body but is typically associated with the lungs. Some of the other areas where tissues may be affected include around the heart and abdomen. There are multiple signs and symptoms that are often seen with mesothelioma including:
- Chest pain
- Painful coughing
- Unusual lumps under the skin
- Swelling
- Unexplained weight loss

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation treatments and clinical drug trials may prove helpful in treating or slowing the progression of the disease.
Ohio residents who are diagnosed with this form of cancer likely have a difficult road ahead of them. This disease can be physically and psychologically demanding and often has significant impact on finances. If asbestos exposure is found to be the underlying cause of this medical diagnosis, legal options to gain compensation may be available. Civil claims can be filed against employers and/or others believed to be responsible for the asbestos exposure.
