Car accidents involving alcohol often might have been avoidable

  |   Apr 03, 2017  |  Car Accidents

Sometimes, an accident is just that: an accident that may or may not have been avoidable. Car accidents are all the more difficult to prevent, though, when factors such as drunk driving come into play. Tragically, a recent two-vehicle crash in Ohio that appears to have involved alcohol resulted in the deaths of three people.

Three individuals were traveling east in a car when a van, driving north, failed to stop at a stop sign and subsequently collided with the car. Reports indicate that two of the three occupants of the car were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. All three people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The three occupants of the van were all wearing their seatbelts. Perhaps because of this fact, these three all survived the accident. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their apparently minor injuries.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol did state that they believe alcohol to have been a contributing factor in the fatal accident. To date, no criminal charges have been filed. Regardless, if fault on the part of the van’s driver becomes apparent, the families of the diseased accident victims may choose to pursue wrongful death civil suits. A personal injury attorney with experience in fatal car accidents could help provide valuable legal counsel and insight to anyone in Ohio who has similarly been injured or lost a loved one due to another’s negligence.
