Sometimes, car crashes are unforeseeable. All too often, though, preventable car accidents are caused by another driver’s errors or negligence. Even worse, sometimes these careless mistakes are to blame for the death of an innocent person.
This seems to be the case in a recent automobile accident that occurred on June 23, at least according to reports from the Ohio State Highway. A driver attempted to pass another vehicle that Friday afternoon and, while doing so, illegally crossed the double yellow line. In the process, he collided with an oncoming minivan head-on.
Tragically, the driver of the other vehicle, a 77-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. His 72-year-old wife suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The man who allegedly caused the accident, the 30-year-old driver of the pickup, was also transported to a hospital.
No mention is made in the article of any criminal charges at this time, but a further investigation into the crash is likely ongoing. Regardless, the injured woman may have grounds not only for a personal injury suit but for a wrongful death suit, as well, for the loss of her husband due to the other driver’s negligence. A successfully presented lawsuit by an Ohio attorney with experience in cases involving car accidents could result in the award of monetary damages to help with things such as medical and funeral expenses, and pain and suffering, either for the physically injured or for a grief-stricken family’s emotional devastation over the loss of their loved one.
