Most people living here in Ohio and elsewhere have at least some rough idea of how their future looks. They make plans, and entertain dreams and aspirations. All of that can disappear in seconds in serious or deadly car accidents.
The aspirations of at least three young people may never come to fruition after a catastrophic wrong-way crash on Interstate 90. At around 11:45 p.m. on a recent Sunday, a car occupied by a 19-year-old man, who was driving, two 19-year-old women and one 20-year-old woman headed east on the interstate. They had no idea that a vehicle driven by a 58-year-old man was headed toward them, driving the wrong way along the highway.
The extent of the damage to the two vehicles was such that emergency responders had to extricate the victims. Once they got to the occupants of both vehicles, they discovered that the collision killed both drivers and the 20-year-old passenger. The other two passengers in the first vehicle remained in critical condition at an area hospital at last report. It may take further investigation to determine the factors that led to this terrible tragedy.
Some of those details could help the families of the deceased victims and the surviving victims in any wrongful death or personal injury claims filed in an Ohio civil court. If negligence is proved, the court may award damages that could help with the financial losses associated with car accidents of this nature. In addition, any monetary restitution received may also be accompanied by some sense of justice and closure regarding the abrupt and violent end to the lives of the victims. Even the anticipated futures of those who survived may never be fully realized because of the negligence of another person.
