Like everywhere else, Ohio residents rely on drivers to follow the rules and keep the safety of others in mind as they travel the state’s roadways. The sad reality is that many people each year end up disappointed because some drivers fail to do so. In fact, innocent victims often end up losing their lives or suffering serious injuries in head-on collisions.
One man’s family now feels this disappointment after a crash that recently took place on U.S. 42 here in Ohio. It was shortly after 2 p.m. when a vehicle crossed over the centerline and slammed head-on into the other vehicle. The innocent driver who was in the path of the wrong-way vehicle failed to survive the injuries he suffered in the impact.
At least one other vehicle was also involved in the crash even though the driver attempted to avoid the wreckage. The wrong-way vehicle struck it, and the impact sent it into a ditch off the side of the road. No information regarding the condition of the third vehicle’s occupants was available. However, the wrong-way driver suffered injuries serious enough to warrant being removed from the scene by helicopter.
The family of the deceased victim and the surviving driver may exercise their rights to file wrongful death and personal injury claims, respectively. If the evidence presented to the court proves negligence on the part of the wrong-way driver, monetary judgments could be awarded. Any restitution received as a result of those claims could help with the financial losses that accumulate in the aftermath of head-on collisions.
