Philips Respironics issued a recall for several products sold since 2009, including ventilators, BiPAP and CPAP devices, due to a risk involving their polyester-based polyurethane foam. This foam could either degrade or release chemicals, which means the device might send these particles to the user’s airways.
As of March 2022, Philips Respironics also issued a recall of all V60 and V60 Plus Ventilators due to a power issue that can cause the ventilator to stop with or without triggering the warning alarm. As of April 14, 2022, the defect resulted in at least one death and four injuries.
The following list of recalled CPAP devices comes directly from the manufacturer’s website. All of these recalled devices were manufactured prior to April 26, 2021, and the recall includes all serial numbers for each model.
Possible symptoms of injury due to this serious CPAP hazard may include:
These problems can create a significant health issue. It is important to talk to your doctor if you believe you might have a CPAP-related illness. If you own one of these recalled devices, your doctor can tell you whether to stop using your machine or find an alternative. Then, register your device with Philips to replace or repair your device at no cost.
While treating an existing breathing problem, the last thing you need is a machine that makes you feel worse. If the debris or carcinogenic chemicals from the foam enter your body, you may be at risk for a severe, life-threatening injury.
If your breathing machine or ventilator harms you, get advice from our experienced product liability lawyers. You may need comprehensive medical care to treat exposure to toxic chemicals and dangerous particles. We know how to pursue full compensation so you can recover.
Your CPAP device or ventilator should help you breathe better without risking a serious illness. Our personal injury trial lawyers at Kelley Ferraro, LLC, are ready to give you clear answers to your legal questions. Call our Cleveland office at 216.575.0777 or email us for a case evaluation.
